Topic: Case Study Migrating to Office 365
Moving to the cloud is tempting and exciting for myriad reasons, but what does it actually entail at the SharePoint admin level? This session will cover the research, business case for your CIO, project planning, and lessons learned of an actual on-premises SharePoint-to-SharePoint Online migration process from the beginning—selling it to management—to planning, launch, and, finally on to change management and sustaining the system.
This migration took place on a small Caribbean island, so the value of inherent disaster recovery following migration was a key factor, but it’s just as applicable to a mainland situation. If you’re considering or planning on going hybrid or migrating fully into the SharePoint cloud, this session will provide you proven practices, prevent headaches, and give you ideas that you can take back and implement in your SharePoint roadmap. Plus, photos of palm trees and azure waters.
Speaker: Matt Wade
Matt is an engineer-turned IT nerd. His career began designing mechanical systems for nuclear reactors for the US Navy. SharePoint 2007 rolled out soon after and he leveraged it to organize design documents, contracts, and drawings dating back decades; for better or worse, a new power user was born. The IT department needed some help, so he led adoption for a few years following, including the user adoption sides of upgrading to SharePoint 2013. Next, he spent a couple years in the US Virgin Islands where he led the organization’s migration from SharePoint 2013 to SharePoint Online. Today he consults internationally on Office 365 migration and adoption. Recently found himself neck deep in AI and bots. He’s worked in environments ranging from government to private sector; fewer than one hundred users to thousands; strictly secure to eh-good-enough; custom to out-of-the-box; snowed-in to palm tree-laden. @thatmattwade
